Engineering is made up of 4 major areas – chemical, electrical, mechanical and civil and each day the kids will use innovation, investigation and problem solving skills to build and create many new projects including towers, bridges, planes, rockets, electrical devices, chemical creations, LEGO structures, etc. There will be at least 5 experiments that will be made and taken home each day. Circuit Lab - App Inventors
Circuit Makers 101 and Robot Commanders 101Located at the Armando Center* Grades 1-3Circuit Makers 101Let’s get creative with electricity! In this junior hands-on electronics class, students will gain experience with creating their own electronics; designing custom light-up greeting cards, electric games, mazes, and even musical instruments. Each class dayconsists of a circuitry lesson and a hands-on electronics project, using components like lights, buzzers, switches, motors, and sensors. Circuit Lab staff will make sure participants create a project that they can be proud of each day. In this class we provide several active, playful activities, where students learn about what it means to write, debug, and execute computer programs that communicate with different robotic devices. This course gived young makers that critical edge. We start by exploring the magic of electorincs with simple curcuits, then begin making customized programmable devices with Arduino. We will gain practice working with LED's, speakers, a variety of sensors, and several kid friendly programming interfaces. Each class day is a chance to design, build, and code a new hands-on project while developing a valuable set of skillsDate: August 10th - August 14thTime: 9:00AM - 12:00PM--------------App Inventors:Want to know how the apps work on your phone or ipad? Or, do you already have the next great app idea, and just need to know how to make it? In this no experience required course, we use MIT App Inventor Software to make fun, creative apps for android phones and tablets. We will also explore wireless communication by building custom Bluetooth hardware controllers and readouts for our apps. Top Secret Science - Summer - Spectacular Hands-On Science (Armando Center)
Amazing 100 Make & Take Home Science Experiments!Lego EngineeringCome join this very cool and fun elementary school summer program! Over the past 30 years, Top Secret Science (www.TopSecretKids.org) has worked hands-on with over 2 million local children. Engineering is made up of 4 major areas – chemical, electrical, mechanical and civil and each day the kids will use innovation, investigation and problem solving skills to build and create many new projects including towers, bridges, planes, rockets, electrical devices, chemical creations, LEGO structures, etc. There will be at least 5 experiments that will be made and taken home each day. Each child receives a Free Top Secret Science Tee Shirt! A wonderful 3 hours of engineering each day. Each day the kids will explore 20 weird and wacky hands-on science experiments and will make and take home all the projects. The scientists are fast paced and funny and your kids will be thoroughly entertained (they’ll even learn some interesting things too). We will explore weird motions and flying things, air and water pressure; crazy chemistry, light and sound, science magic, electricity, magnets, astronomy and more. Be prepared for lots of fun stuff. A wonderful 6 hours of science each day.
