10:00 AM - 12:00 PM    Built for Bluebirds - Bluebird Birdhouses
Built for Bluebirds - Presented by Jim Schmidt   This hands-on workshop introduces participants to the Eastern Bluebird and shows homeowners how to attract these beautiful birds to their yard. Participants will learn a little about bluebirds, their nesting habits, and how properly designed birdhouses helped bring them back after years of population decline. After a short presentation, participants will paint, build, and mount their own bluebird nesting box to take home ready to install in their yard! The program combines a little nature education with a fun, hands-on woodworking activity that works well for adults, families, and community groups. During the workshop, participants will learn why Eastern Bluebirds declined in the past, how nesting boxes helped their recovery, and what homeowners can do to attract them successfully. We also talk about proper placement of a nesting box, what bluebirds look for when selecting a nesting site, and how to maintain the box after the nesting season. Each participant will assemble their own bluebird nesting box and learn about the design features that make the house safe and attractive for bluebirds. They leave the program with a completed birdhouse ready to install in their yard, complete with a heavy-duty birdhouse mounting pole. The program typically runs about 90 minutes to two hours, depending on the group size. It works well for adults, families, or community groups. Class sizes are limited to 10. ( All materials, tools, and instructions are provided) Armando Center Saturday April 25th 10a to 12p$89Register one person per birdhouse you plan to build.
